An abundance of marginalized scholarship has debunked this simplistic and inaccurate official narrative of the CSA. Nevertheless, due to its marginalization that scholarship has not penetrated the American mind. If the American mind were shaped by truths such as CSA leaders were not traitors but patriots, the conflict was not a civil war but a war for Southern independence, and that slavery was not the primary cause of the war, but a post hoc fallacy, the political situation we find our-selves in today might be quite different
