Before 1849, muzzle-loading weapons fired round lead projectiles called balls. In 1849 French Captain Claude Miniè invented a bullet shaped projectile similar to those in this package. His invention increased musket range and accuracy. Shooters accustomed to firing "Balls" quickly termed his invention "Miniè Ball" and inaccurately pronounced it "Minnie". The examples in this package are new reproduction .58 caliber typical of those used during the 1861-65 War for Southern Independence.
