Edward McKendree Bounds witnessed the Union massacre at Palmyra, Missouri. He was imprisoned, then ordered to leave the State. During the War he served under Gen. Sterling Price. A man of humility, he became a weeping prophet to the Methodist Church whose leadership was bent on liberalism. He never sought praise, and when Southern University of Greensboro, AL. desired to confer an Honorary D.D. Degree, he turned it down. The last 19 years of his life were given over to 3 or 4 hours per day of intercessory prayer each morning. He authored 8 books, including “Preacher and Prayer.”
